The Tae Baek mountain range, which separates Yeongseo (the western part of Gangwon-do) from Yeongdong (the eastern part of Gangwon-do) has been connected through the main roads in Gangwon-do such as Jinburyeong (Inje ~ Ganseong) Misiryeong(Inje ~ Sokcho) Hangyeryeong (Inje~ Yangyang) Guryongryeong (Hongcheon ~ Yangyang) Jingogae (JinBu~ Yeongok) Daegwanryeong (Hoenggye ~ Gangneung) and Baegbongryeong (Imgae ~ Donghae). The important highways are Gyeongwon, Gyeongchun, Chuwon and Gangneung highways.
A partial interstate highway has opened, connecting Gangneung to Donghae making daily commuting possible between Yeongdong and Yeongseo, Moreover, the completion of the Jungang interstate highway (Chuncheon ~ Taegu) made the traffic situation to Gyeongsang-do region much more palatable.
With the opening of the Seoul-Chuncheon Highway in July of 2009, it takes just an hour from Seoul to Chuncheon.
The new route significantly reduces travel time between Seoul and the lakeside city Chuncheon. It used to take 100 minutes by bus to get from eastern Seoul to Chuncheon during the week and two to three hours on weekends and holidays. It now takes just an hour.
The highway connecting the Gangil Interchange in Seoul to the Chuncheon Junction cuts through a lush and verdant swath of green fields, inviting lakes and mountain corridors.
In Korea, the railroads include the Gyeongchun Line which runs between Seoul (Cheongryangri Station) and Chuncheon, Jungang Line which departs Cheongryangri via Wonju, Yeongdong Line forks from Yeongju of Jungang Line between Yeongdong and Gangneung, and Samcheok Line between Donghae City and Samcheok City. Taebaek Line, starting from Jecheon City, Chungcheongbuk-do, is extended to Gohan/Taebaek (Hwangji) and connected with Yeongdong Line at Baeksan. It is forks at Jeungsan and reaches to Jeongseon/Gujeol on Jeongseon Line.
In additions, part of the Jungang Line, Taebaek Line and Yeongdong Line is electrified to Donghae City, which greatly contributes to the conveyance of resources, regional development and the promotion of tourism.
Seoul-Chuncheon Doubly track train
From the end of 2010, the double track train line that connects Cheongnyangni Station in northern Seoul with the Chuncheon city center has been opened. The train, operates at a speed of 180 kilometers per hour (112 miles per hour), cuts travel time between the two cities by 40 minutes, and the entire trip takes just an hour.
