As there are no mountains in the surrounding area and almost no fog due to the strong wind from the sea. It has played a role of an alternative airport of Sokcho airport, since it has a 30% cancellation rate and Gangneung Airport has such poor landing facilities. It has a control tower and has been promoting the establishment of a North-South direct line connected to Seondeok Airport (宣德空航), Hamgyeongnam-do, North Korea, according to the North-South transit protocol by KEDO. |

Dongchun Ferry, which serves at Sokcho Port, established the “Baekdusan Route.” The world’s first sea-land connects Car-Ferry route and Sokcho and Hunchun, China via Zarubino and has been transporting passengers and container freights etc. Moreover, since 2003, it has extended its lane to Vladivostok Port, the capital of the maritime province of Russia. Cruise service to Japan and Singapore is available too.

Baekdusan, the spirit mountain of Korea, is located at the border between North Korea and China. The ferry departs at Sokcho Port for sightseeing of Baekdusan as well as Goguryeo/Balhae remains of Manju and anti-Japan sites etc.
The southeast of Baekdusan is North Korea and the Northwest is China. Since the course is Sokcho Port – Zarubino, Russia – Hunchun/Yanji, China – Baekdusan, a visa should be obtained from both China and Russia.
For Chinese Visa, please inquire to the passenger department of Dongchun Ferry or the Chinese embassy, and for a Russian Visa, please apply to the Russian embassy in person. If you are Japanese, a visa is not required to enter China.

he Port of Donghae mainly used to transport cement and limestone in and out of the country and it became famous in the world tourism industry by serving Geumgangsan Ferry in 1998. As rear condition was formed such as the completion of 4-lane extension of Youngdong Express Highway etc., in 2001, it is expected that the freight transportation centering on Busan and Incheon Port at present would distributed to Donghae Port.
In the future, Donghae Port locating at the key part of Donghae rim will play a leading role in the North-South exchange, northward exchange and international maritime sightseeing. |
[ Status of facility relating to Donghae Cruise ]
The Port Donghae is an “out-port” for the Geumgangsan Cruise promoted by Hyundai, and has maximum quay capacity of nine 50,000 ton level vessels. At present, Donghae Port has 2 vessel seats exclusive for Geumgangsan Cruise, a cruise terminal, various subsidiary facilities and functions required for cruise sightseeing such as feeding, watering, product supply and cleaning etc.
The passenger terminal, an iron-framed single-story building (approximately 840 PY) has convenience facilities such as bank, stand, lounge, and photo studio etc., and 1,300 PY parking facility. 150,000 visitors a year are using this facility. |

In other cases, a passport and visa are critical and may take a long time to obtain. Yet, in case of Geumgangsan sightseeing, visitors shall be given [a sightseeing certificate] as a visa on the day of departure and it plays the role of all ID cards.
Therefore, if you have the sightseeing certificate, no additional preparation for a visa is required.
However, for the certificate, you need an ID card in Korea. So, you must have a resident registration card, a driver’s license, or passport on the date of departure. In case of foreigners, you should submit a copy of your passport and have your passport with you on the date of departure.
