Hwajinpo

Being formed in the fantastic rocks and stones and pine trees beside New Millennium Road, the best driving course connecting Samcheok port and Samcheok beach, New Millennium Marina is famous for its beautiful sunrise. It provides a spectacular wishing tower engraved with 32,347 names (320 of which belong to foreigners) and a beach sculpture park. Especially, various events are held on the open stage, including the Sunrise Festival on New Year’s Day. Also, visitors can enjoy fresh sashimi at the nearby sashimi center after viewing the sunrise.

    Geonbong Temple which is located at the bottom of the southern Mt. Geumgang had been built in the 7th year of king Beopheung of Shilla Dynasty, in 520. During its flourishing times, with its 3,813 rooms and branch temples such as Shinheung and Naksan Temples etc. it was one of the great four temples in Korea. However, the Korean War destroyed everything except Burimun. Despite of the misfortune, it is getting its prosperity by setting the ground and restoring some parts to the original state. Lying in the civilian passage restriction line, this temple had not allowed the passages, but has permitted people to pass by since the summer of 1992. It is preserved as a treasure No.51 of Gangwon and being continued the reconstruction.

    This is an undersea tunneled aquarium that lies on the origin of the overland travel, at Goseong-gun. It has a hall to exhibit nearly 40,000 shellfish that consists of about 1,500 specimens such as clams, Crustaceas, corals, fossils, and stuffed specimens etc. and a hall to show approximately three thousands underwater creatures in various aquariums. The latter displays about 125 specimens of submarine lives classified with each habitat environment and special concepts.
